Can ethical be fashionable?

Programmes like Panorama and Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts on the BBC have recently highlighted the concern for ethical standards, laws against child labour and concern over the whereabouts of our fabrics.

There are many retailers out there selling ethical options. Whether the fabrics are Fairtrade, made from recycled fabrics, or vintage, ethical is definitely on the way up.

There are a couple of brands that I feel are top of this trend, one is People Tree. Founded in Japan in 1991, this brand was recently endorsed by Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame. Their products are hand woven, hand knit and hand embroideried.

The other brand is Annie Greenabelle. This brand uses vintage recycled fabrics, organic cotton and Fairtrade standards. Their 1950′s themed items are quirky and cute, whilst being contemporary enough for today’s cosmopolitan environments.

Here are some examples of my favourite pieces.
